Focusing on Health and Welfare

Several important health issues and programs are designated for National Health Awareness emphasis during the month of March. These include National Mental Retardation Awareness, American Red Cross Month, National Colorectal Cancer Awareness, and National Kidney Awareness.

Your Health And Welfare committee strongly recommends that you talk with your doctor and schedule a colonoscopy as necessary. Colorectal cancer is easily treated is detected early. Drink 6 to 8 ounces of water daily and talk with your doctor about ways to protect your kidneys, particularly if you have diabetes. It is estimated that over six thousand Black people are currently awaiting kidney transplant surgery secondary to complications of diabetes mellitus.

Give the Gift of Life by donating a pint of blood to the Red Cross this year. Advocate for people with mental retardation.
